Adult Ed Film – Yentl

Saturday, December 11, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Based on Isaac Bashevis Singer’s short story “Yentl the Yeshiva Boy,”  this film incorporates humor and music to tell the story of an Ashkenazi Jewish girl in Poland who decides to dress and live like a boy so that she can receive an education in Talmudic Law after her father dies. The film’s musical score and songs, composed by Michel Legrand, include the songs “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” and “The Way He Makes Me Feel,” both sung by Streisand. The film received the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and the Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy and Best Director for Streisand, making her the first woman to have won Best Director at the Golden Globes.

The film was made in the U.K. and the U.S. in 1983, and directed by Barbra Streisand.

Laurie Baron will introduce the movie and lead the discussion afterward. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. Sorry – there are no snacks provided this time.
