Adult Ed Lecture – Pioneering American Jewish Directors

Wednesday, December 8, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Although Jewish women have always been part of making American films as actresses and screenwriters, their entry into the ranks of directors was belated. A number of notable Jewish female directors emerged on the Hollywood scene in the 1970s who brought both a Jewish and feminist perspective to their films.  This lecture will profile these pioneers from Elaine May, Joan Micklin-Silver, Claudia Weil, Lee Grant to Barbra Streisand.

Laurie Baron held the Nasatir Chair in Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University from 1988-2012. He has authored several books including Projecting the Holocaust in the Present (2005) and The Modern Jewish Experience in World Cinema.

This event will be held live at Temple and on the live stream for those who wish watch from home.
