We hope everyone is staying safe and comfortable during these trying times. This year has not been easy, but the empathy and resolve shown by our Temple Emanu-El community has been grounding for so many of us. We feel so lucky to be surrounded by such compassion and kindness.

With this in mind, it is so important to recognize those who do not have the communities and support networks we are so blessed with. San Diego is home to one of the largest unsheltered populations in the country, and the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed even those in financially stable households to the brink.

With the spirit of Tikkun Olam in mind, the SanETY board has decided to organize a food drive to benefit the hungry population here in San Diego. On Sunday, January 10 and Sunday, January 24 SanETY will have safe drop-off stations in the Temple parking lot to collect food donations before and during Torah School from 8:30 am to 12 pm each day. All donations will be delivered to the Jewish Family Service Food Pantry. If you’re able to donate, we are asking for canned foods, dried foods, and other non-perishable items .
